2/7/2012 – Host housing update. Due to the recent news of a soccer tournament taking place in Merced the same weekend as the Merco Cycling Classic and potential hotel room shortages, we are working on host housing options. Please see our facebook page for more information.
The 2012 MERCO Cycling Classic will be held on Thursday, March 1st through Sunday, March 4th in Merced, CA. For 2012, we are adding a Masters 35+ Stage race that will include all four days along with the Men’s Pro 1/2 field. The Stage Race will consist of the MID Road Race (Stage Race Only), an Individual Time Trial, the Downtown Grand Prix, and the Hilltop Ranch Road Race.

Details on each of these stages can be found below. The Women’s P 1/2 Stage race will be shortened to 3 days (Friday through Sunday) for 2012 and be run as an omnium.
Total Prize List:
Pro 1/2 Men = $8000 cash minimum + Jerseys/Rock trophies
Masters 35+ 1/2/3 = $3000 Cash minimum + Jerseys/Rock Trophies
Women Pro 1/2/3 = $3250 Cash minimum + Jerseys/Rock Trophies.
9 Rider Limit Per team.
Leaders Jersey’s will be awarded to the GC leader following each stage.
There will be a Combined (Sprint/KOM) competition for Both Mens Pro 1/2 and Masters 35+ 1/2/3 Categories. The leader after each stage will be awarded a Leaders Jersey sponsored by Jakroo. Final Overall winner will be awarded $350 Pro 1/2 winner and $250 to the Masters 35+ 1/2/3 winner. There will be no Womens Points competition for 2012 due to the Omnium Format.
There will be an U25 competition for the mens P1/2 and U26 for women with a leaders jersey awarded following each stage. Overall Winner will be awarded $150(Men)/ $125(Women). Update – We are adding an 45 and Over Jersey competition to the Masters 35+ 1/2/3 Race. Top placing rider age 45 or over will receive a leaders Jersey following each stage to be worn while leading the competition. Final overall winner will be awarded $150.
Prize money for the Overall GC standings:
- Pro 1/2 Men: $4000/20 places
- Women Pro1/2/3: $1500/15 places.
- 35+ 1/2/3: $1500/15 places
This is a Stage Race, You must complete every stage in Order to Start the next.
Stage Race for Pro 1/2 men and Masters 35+ 1/2/3 only.
Women May race 1 stage or all 3 as part of the omnium and are not required to race all 3.
